Investment strategy

Underwrite the downside. Structure the certainty. Stage the capital.

Aurora's strategy is deliberately narrow. We seek assets whose economics are legible, whose risks are structurable, and whose relevance is durable — and we commit capital progressively as evidence accumulates.

Selection criteria

What must be true before we proceed.

Revenue character

Contracted, regulated or utility-like cash flows with credible counterparties.

Barriers to replication

Permits, grid or land position, scarcity of substitutes, or regulatory moat.

Capital structure

Defensible position with covenant architecture proportionate to risk.

Jurisdiction

Stable legal systems, enforceable security, transparent permitting.

Governance readiness

Ability to meet institutional reporting, audit and control standards.

Exit and refinance

Identifiable institutional buyer universe or refinancing pathway.

Capital staging

Commitment tied to validation, not enthusiasm.

Capital is released in tranches. Each tranche is conditional on the completion of defined validation milestones and Committee reaffirmation.

Stage I

Feasibility & validation

Technical, legal and commercial verification of core assumptions.

Stage II

Development capital

Permitting, land, grid and anchor counterparty formalisation.

Stage III

Project finance

Structured senior facilities and equity syndication to institutions.

Stage IV

Operate & refinance

Stabilised operation, refinancing and disciplined expansion.

Risk discipline

Risk is priced, structured or declined — never assumed away.

Concentration
Sector, counterparty and jurisdictional limits applied at portfolio level.
Construction & delivery
Fixed-price mechanisms, contingency, and independent technical review.
Offtake & demand
Contracted anchor demand preferred; merchant exposure explicitly capped.
Regulatory
Scenario-tested against plausible policy change, not assumed continuity.
Liquidity
Duration matched to capital; no reliance on near-term secondary liquidity.
Model risk
Assumptions independently challenged and sensitivity-tested at Committee.
